Ann Marie Decker, our department's Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education, received word this week from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) that she has been re-certified as a Geriatric Clinical Specialist (GCS).
APTA established the specialist certification program in 1978. The program was established to provide formal recognition for physical therapists with advanced clinical knowledge, experience, and skills in a special area of practice and to assist consumers and the health care community in identifying these physical therapists.
To be certified a specialist, a physical therapist must demonstrate 2,000 hours of working directly with patients in the chosen specialty area and must also successfully complete a 200 question objective examination.
Well done, Ann Marie! We're proud of your accomplishment.
