Faculty Updates

The start of fall semester brings a couple of changes to our department.

During the 2010-2011 academic year, PT faculty member Don Hoover will be spending 50% of his time serving as an Associate Dean for the School of Graduate and Professional Studies while the school searches for a new permanent Associate Dean.  Although we're sad that Don won't be with us full-time during the coming year, we're excited for his new opportunity and we know he'll do a great job.

Adjunct instructor Christina Wisdom has graciously agreed to teach the classes Don won't be able to cover in fall semester. Thanks Christina!!

Another change for fall semester involves PT faculty members Ellen Spake and Amy Foley.  Ellen is taking a sabbatical leave during fall semester to devote intense effort to a couple of academic projects.  Amy Foley will teach Professional Development and Clinical Decision Making in Ellen's absence.

Never a dull moment in PT-land! :-)

Adjunct Instrutor Offers Tips for Weekend Warriors

Congratulations to Rockhurst adjunct instructor Dan Lorenz (PT, DPT, ATC/L, CSCS, USAW) for a great article in the July 2010 issue of Physical Therapy Products. Titled, Weekend Warriors: Keeping Them Primed for Battle, the article is absolutely packed with evidence-based information on both prevention and treatment of injuries that commonly occur in athletes who hit it hard on the weekend.

You can read the story online at:

Dan is a sports medicine specialist at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He teaches a very popular elective on sports physical therapy for our program in spring semester.

Great job, Dan!
